Written in 1877, materials - canvas, oil, dimensions - 53 by 64 cm. Located in the Musée d’Orsay Museum, Paris, France.

The French artist is an outstanding and consistent representative of impressionism, who largely shaped this style. Its main subjects are traditional landscapes and their own, fantastic interpretation of light and air in them. This work belongs to the period when Pissarro was fully formed as a painter.

The full title in French makes it clear that in winter a part of the village of Côte de Saint-Denis in the district of Pontoise is depicted. Although the time of year is not as obvious as on the canvases of Russian painters, the viewer can guess from the flying leaves and bare branches, from the glimpses of white snow in the grass on a high hill. The contrasts of the heat created by the declining sun are perfectly expressed in color - outside the image - by the sun and the general color of the area with a cold sky along with plastered snow-white houses.

It is interesting that such buildings with red roofs made of tiles are a completely familiar attribute of the master’s homeland, but he was able to draw them so vividly and with details of the environment that not everyone will notice. Dried grass or dried flowers at the porch shine with ocher and orange, the soft transitions of green, maroon, yellow, brown and black spill under bizarre trees that look like a garden, and in larger spots of squeezed fields in the background. Translucent white mixes with sky blue for a fast cloud run. And in general, the whole picture lives, moves and breathes due to brush strokes visible near relief. She shows the author’s gaze and the beauty that he saw at one moment and immortalized in eternity. Also worth noting is a well-designed diverse composition and perspective.
